Banking/Finance
Return on Solution

The employment forecast for the region from 1995 to 2005 calls for little or no growth, while nationally, the banking/ finance industry is expected to grow at a nominal rate of 0.4 percent. This industry is not going to grow unless the rest of the region grows. Banks headquartered here may experience some growth because their branches in faster growing Indiana communities are adding business. In fact, an estimated 30 percent of financial services business comes from services provided outside the region. Therefore, there is a strong incentive for banks with business in other communities to be concerned with development in those markets. However, most of the region's financial industry relies on business health and growth locally. The relatively flat growth in Kalamazoo-Battle Creek has had a detrimental effect on local banks. If this region is able to expand, attract and form new businesses, the banking/finance industry will show corresponding growth.
