CHAPTER XI - CONSERVATION

D. COMMUNITY CHARACTER

The character of a community is defined in many ways. Patterns of land development, especially early settlements, types of architecture, the structure of the local economy, natural features, topography, and major corridors and/or gateways to the City's central business district and other key sites all contribute to the character in the community.

Three of these factors, important viewsheds, gateway corridors/entrances, and historic preservation have been examined in detail. In order to maintain the community character, and improve the overall appearance of the City, an analysis of these features and recommendations to preserve and protect these elements of community character will be addressed as the Comprehensive Plan unfolds.
