F. OTHER UTILITIES
 

1. Electric
 

Consumers Power Company provides electricity for the City of Kalamazoo. The average rate is 0.083 cents per kilowatt hour (KwH). According to the Kalamazoo County Economic Development Strategic Plan, the electric rates for Kalamazoo are low relative to southeast Michigan, but are high compared to Indiana.
 

2. Gas
 

Consumers Power Company provides natural gas service for the City of Kalamazoo. The average rate is $0.50 per kilowatt hour. The Kalamazoo Economic Development Strategic Plan indicates that there is adequate electrical and natural gas capacity in the area.
 

3. Communications
 

Local phone service is provided by Ameritech in the City of Kalamazoo. The basic monthly rate for lines with 50 calls or less is $12.13. The rate for up to 400 calls is $14.59 a month and the rate for unlimited calls is $42.00 a month. These are the rates for minimum services with no special features, such as call waiting, and do not include federal line charges.
