Kalamazoo Handicappers United Kalamazoo Handicappers United (KHU), a non-profit organization (501C3), was started in 1988 by a group of people with disabilities who perceived a need for advocacy on issues related to their civil rights. While individual advocacy meets many needs, such as access to transportation, employment, and personal assistance, these issues were not being addressed on a community wide basis. As a result persons with disabilities experienced continued exclusion from mainstream culture.
